Gabbar Singh: He was scarier than his character in Sholay (1975), who was this Gabbar?

The film Sholay released in 1975 was equally popular not only at that time but even today.

Sholay is one of the most iconic films in the history of Indian cinema.

From children to the elderly, every dialogue of the film has been lip-synced. Even today, the dialogue of the film Sholay in the conversation with friends on the field is at home. The film starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra and Hema Malini in lead roles. Amjad Khan played the role of Gabbar Singh in the film.

"Ab tera keya hoga kaliya?" Every such dialogue of the notorious dacoit Gabbar is equally popular even today.

But who was this guy originally ?

Once upon a time, Gabbar Singh was a real dacoit. The character in Sholey is inspired by the real notorious dacoit Gabbar Singh.

Once upon a time, a notorious dacoit from Madhya Pradesh, Gabbar Singh, became a headache for the police. What was the real dacoit Gabbar, as shown in the film 'Sholay'.?

It is heard about the notorious robber named Gabra or 'Gabbar' in 1950. Gabbar Singh alias Gabra was born in 1926 in Dang village of Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. This dreaded dacoit was a member of Kalyan Singh Gujjar's gang.

In the film, Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan) cuts the hand of a cop (Sanjeev Kumar). In fact, many incidents of cutting off the ears and nose of the police can be heard in the name of Gabbar.

The police of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh were also afraid of Gabbar's terror. Like in the movie, the police also kept a reward of Rs 50,000 for the original Gabbar. It is said that he (the real Gabbar Singh) took an oath in front of his family goddess that he would cut off the noses of 116 people as an offering.

The then IG KF Rustamji had mentioned Gabbar Singh's crime in his diary. According to Rustamji's diary, the fear of Gabbar Singh spread to Bhind, Gwalior, Chambal, Etawah and Dholpur. Many cases of police cutting off ears and noses are also associated with his name.

At one time people were so afraid of him that no one reported him to the police. Despite police efforts, he was not arrested. But he was killed later.

Gabbar Singh was killed by the police in 1959. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajendra Prasad Modi was given the responsibility of nabbing him. In the same year, a villager informed the police about the dacoit, after which Gujjar Singh was killed.
